Native to equatorial Africa, the African grey parrot is scientifically known as the genus Psittacus. It contains two species: Psittacus erithacus (the Congo grey) and Psittacus timneh (the Timneh grey). They’re medium-sized and weigh about 400 grams.
African grey parrots make popular pets due to their incredible intelligence levels and ability to mimic human speech and other sounds. They’re not beginner birds though, as they’re sensitive and need specialized care.
