Eclectus

When they were first discovered, Eclectus parrot males and females were thought to belong to two different species. Not surprising, given the fact that the boys are bright green and the girls are deep red with dashes of blue!

Native to Indonesia, Northern Australia and several other nearby archipelagos, Eclectus are rainforest inhabitants that, like many other parrots, nest in hollow trees. They’re popular as pets, but can be challenging because they require a different diet than many other common pet parrot species.
